Simon’s struggle for survival

Guest Post by Tony Santino: A few people realise that the Nationalist Party is totally broke and is living beyond its means. The situation has become so bad that

workers are whispering about the terror that that grips them by the end of the month as they wonder whether they’re going to get paid or kicked out.
In fact, my theory is that the recent public manifestations by the Nationalist Party, were actually counter-productive from a political point of view, considering the “boost” they got from the Panamagate debacle and had an ulterior motive.
The Jason Azzopardi “martyr” farce and the anti-corruption protests revealed that the Nationalist Party still thinks its members are the anointed ones and must be treated better than other citizens; hence Jason Azzopardi should be immune to libel and free to offend anyone he chooses.
It also brought to light
il-“marmalja” Nazzjonalista,
many of whom thought that such a species did not exist in DCGs elitist and Nationalist Paradise. Now, everyone has seen proof that the Nationalist Party has a mass of unruly, rude, intolerant and violent people within its ranks who are incapable of tolerating much less accepting different opinions.
The anti-corruption protest regarding the Panama debacle attracted a few thousand people, showed a lot of Nationalist faces that were actually treated fairly by the Labour government and a lot of Nationalists who shouldn’t even show their face in public. These were the really corrupt; the inner echelon who fed like pigs in a trough, fattened their pockets and left a shambles of a party mired in debts that are threatening the very existence of the Nationalist Party.
This explains the real aim of Simon’s vitriolic attacks and heavy-handed political manifestations.
It is a fight for survival for Simon Busuttil—the survival of the Nationalist Party and his survival as a party leader.
Simon knows that he needs to indulge in overkill to stoke the fires of the rabid grassroots and attract the staunchest of the faithful to present a show of force so that the Cedoli concept has a fighting chance of succeeding.
Let’s face it, who in his right mind will “loan” 10 000 euros to a bankrupt party? The Party already owes 250 000 euros to Vassallo and millions to others. They cannot keep milking the same people and if the latter are persuaded to provide even more funds, make no mistake, they will want their pound of flesh back.
Keep in mind that the Nationalist Party has already drained a lot of its’ sponsors, particularly those who were on the JS list (and so of them are under arrest!), so presently pickings are probably quite slim. The only alternative is to fan the fervour of the faithful and reaping the money off the back of the staunchest of the staunch!
Although Simon seems to be in a great hurry to be crowned Prime Minister. He has an enormous drawback. His party has no money. All the Ann Fenechs, Stefano Mallias, Simon Busuttils and Peter Fenechs who made hundreds of thousands of euros off direct orders, bankrupt companies and debt-ridden authorities are not queuing to help the party get out of the red by donating some of their ill-gotten gains.
Simon knows that he cannot win an election with a bankrupt party and he cannot rule a country with a bankrupt party. Yet, he persists in continuing emphasizing a divide and rule campaign notwithstanding that it may threaten our country’s economic well-being.
That’s what being power hungry does to a person and it should also be a cautionary to all those thinking that this guy is capable of forming an alternative government!
