The Times’s news editor resigns to head PN election campaign

It’s official. Caroline Muscat cannot hold back her bias any longer and resigned her news editor post at The Times to join the Nationalist Party and lead its election campaign, the PN announced in a statement.

Muscat, who is well known for the support she has given to the PN while working at Allied Newspapers will be the new campaign director, thus officially working closely with Richard Cachia Caruana and Daphne Caruana Galizia in her new role.

Caroline Muscat has also relinquished her role as vice-chair of the Institute of Maltese Journalists, but before she left, she made sure that a press release condemning the Prime Minister is issued.

In the PN statement Muscat is quoted saying “Throughout my life I have always avoided being partisan because of my role as a journalist, but I now feel that I must take a stand. I am giving up my journalism career because I have been left with little doubt that this government is riddled with corruption,” she said.

“Journalists are unable to do their job with the clamp down on information and lack of transparency that has become the hallmark of this government. This situation is damaging our country and is a threat to democracy.”

Really? I have my doubts whether she lived in Malta prior to 2013.

She also said, “My first priority will be to put together a team that will be focused on listening to people’s needs and concerns, and in turn communicating how the Nationalist party will bring about the change this country needs”.

As if she would have a say!
