A shot of Baileys on the rocks

British millionaire Paul Bailey, has been all over the press in the last couple of days. By now we have all heard about his car that spun out of control and injured 28 people during a fundraising event for the President’s charity some months ago. Unfortunate, as I am sure he meant well.

He and others involved were charged in court in recent days. Interesting to note that Bailey has retained the services of Lou Bondi, the Euro 54,000 a year consultant employed by government to advise the Prime Minister on ‘national celebrations’.

This was and still is a controversial appointment seeing the part Bondi played under the last administration, until the night before election day. Him and Daphne Caruana Galizia were good friends and in his words he stood by her when others ‘scurried away’. The scene that night in the Bidnija Blogger’s residence was not something we are going to ever forget. Neither will the two plain clothes policemen who were present that night.

In a recent Facebook Status update Bondi, dedicated father of four daughters has for the first time broken the silence. So far we have only heard the blogger’s twisted side of the story. We know her style by now. Mix a little bit of truth with lies and half truths and write convincingly and persuasively, which she does. So does Bondi and I know whose version I believe. Bondi is a better person than her. One may question his principles but he has never been on a mission to destroy anyone else for their life choices. He does not have the blogger’s ‘hdura’ and I am not referring to that ghastly green outfit she wore to the Inland Revenue. Daphne Caruana Galizia’s life is a catalogue of bad decisions and choices and yet she doesn’t seem to see the ‘beam’ in her own eye. She doesn’t stop at anything

Much as so many came to dislike Bondi for taking on the government PR job, one wonders why Simon Busuttil’s Blogger is so very angry about this? Is there perhaps not an element of envy in this act? Evidently they have scratched each other’s name from their guest list and they are no longer ‘friends’. After all, with her contacts in the Nationalist Party she would probably have been the one to land this plum job and add some more to the million Euros she has in her bank account.

Regarding this sum I merely quote from your ‘My web is mine’ which appeared recently in the Sunday Malta Independent:’Please note that these details are public in the court case that the Inland Revenue Department have filed against her.’

Those who have monopolized power for so many years find it hard to imagine a world released from their grip as anything but a catastrophe. To Daphne, this must be particularly painful. She has tried her best to describe Bondi as an unprincipled man who ‘crossed the floor’, and put his nose in the trough of a government whose party he spent some 25 years denigrating but with her track record and her principles, she is becoming harder and harder to take seriously. She is a blatant liar. Lou is right about that.
