Over €500,000 unaccounted for in Caruana Galizia’s bank accounts and she feels bewildered that the Department asked for an explanation

Daphne Caruana Galizia did not declare her income for 10 whole years between 2003 and 2013. An investigation into her transactions submitted in court proceedings instituted against her reveal that as much as €560,000 are unaccounted for.

Malta’s Mrs. Bucket was spotted entering the Inland Revenue Department building this morning.

As per the documents which were presented in court, it transpires that Caruana Galizia owes thousand of euro to the Social Security Department, VAT Department and the Income Tax Department too.

In a letter to tax authorities dated June 2014, Caruana Galizia argues that she has one current account which is used for both personal and work reasons, “many of the deposits are not work related at all. They include all manner of deposits that cannot by any means be constructed as income and which are certainly not subject to value added tax. The demand to justify each and every deposit from 2004 to almost the present day has left me feeling overwhelmed, anxious and in an impossibly difficult situation”

Mrs Bucket also claims that there is no VAT revenue owing because she spent several weeks attempting to assemble the documentation for the relevant office and that she felt bewildered because the VAT Department asked her to go through all her bank transactions and identify those which were work related or not.

Of course under the previous administration with her Richard at the helm, such explanations were not asked for.
